WENDY WOOD
Wendy Wood is the new Union County Senior Citizen Center/Office on Aging Director. Wendy comes to us after serving 27 years at Douglas-Cherokee Head start. While at head start, Wendy served as a teacher, an area coordinator, and a family advocate. Many of the requirements and duties of the senior director are exactly what Wendy did while at head start; she’s just dealing with a different generation. Wendy’s goal for the center is to maintain the wonderful legacy left behind by our former director, Melanie Brantley Dykes, while also working to improve outreach and activities for our seniors.
Wendy and her husband Mark have lived in Union County their entire lives. They have been married for 28 years and have one son, Creedence, who is a freshman at UT Chattanooga.
The mission of the Senior Citizens Center/Office on Aging is to enhance the quality of life of our senior citizens and help them remain independent for as long as possible. We provide opportunities for seniors to stay active and our programs focus on health, fitness, recreation and education. We also have outreach efforts to visit those who are isolated or living alone.
